LETTERS TO THE EDITOR
Hi Tony,
Thank you publishing your story in your newspaper. (That was fast.) (Heroin Addiction Killed His Son) I was hoping to provide you some information before it was published.
The organizer of that event was Marilyn Smashey. Her group on facebook is theheroinepidemic. Her goal, and the other participants, is to make the public aware that heroin use is growing at an alarming rate. (Due to the easy avaliability, low cost, and the fact that heroin is now being sold as a white powder that can be snorted, swallowed or smoked as well as injected. In the old days you used to have to cook it down and inject it.) People, especially young people, or trying to use it as a casual drug, like marijuana. Before they even realize it they are addicted. The best website for people who need help or who want to get involved is www.not-even-once.com.
Another goal that I think most of the participants agree on is to pass a petition called Valeries law. It strengthens the penalties for dealers especially when someone dies as a result of using the drug they provided. Anyone can sign this petition on-line @ www.petitions24.com/valeries_law.
There is one error in the story. Travis had been clean and the first time he used again, he died. I think this is important, because if a user relapses, or if someone uses it even once, it could kill them.
Again thank you and your publication for bringing attention to this cause. You can contact me any time if I can provide you any other information.
Sincerely,
Robert Henry
LETTERS, WE WANT LETTERS
Of course, we here at FCN want to continue hearing from our readers. In fact, some great stuff has been sent our way over the years and we want to keep that going! What we don't wish to be is an echo chamber for only those who think alike. With that in mind, respond to things you read at FCN with praise or criticism; however, do so in an adult fashion and without personal attack. We know that politicians can bring out the worst in people, but to repeat, keep things civil and no name calling. Oh, and of course stand behind your comments with a name and way to reach you - anything else would simply be cowardice. Just click on the link above to send your letter.
You can e-mail your letters or send them through the U.S. Postal Service to 1390 South Fifth Street, St. Charles, MO 63301
